Promoting Bell Ringing at the Devizes International Street Festival Sunday 27th August – The Green DevizesMini-Ring-Help-Notice
As part of our Bell Restoration Project Southbroom Ringers (St James) will be promoting bell ringing at the Devizes International Street Festival on Sunday August 27th 2017 between 11:00 am and 6:00 pm. This Festival is organised by the Devizes Outdoor Celebratory Arts (DOCA) and in previous years has drawn large crowds not only from Devizes but also from the surrounding villages and towns.
As you know the Devizes Branch is encouraging promoting bell ringing at local events and we certainty see this event as promoting bell ringing throughout the local area. We have been fortunate enough to secure a grant that has allowed us to hire the Charmborough six bell mini-ring but this does mean we will need help to make it a successful day.
We are still in discussions with DOCA on how the ringing will be integrated with the other entertainment but I am hopeful that we will be able to do a short demonstration say every hour with plenty of opportunities for interested members of the public to ‘have a go’.
It is also intended to have a gazebo for displays and information; local information and local pictures will be a great way to enhance the relevance of these displays.
Help would be appreciated with:
Erecting the mini-ring; this takes approximately 2 hours and should commence at 8:30 am.
Erecting the gazebo and arranging display material.
Pictures and information about local towers.
Ringing teachers to help with ‘have a go’.
Stewards to interact with the public.
Dismantling the mini-ring; this takes about 1.5 hours and will take place at the end of the event or earlier if footfall is low or the weather inclement.
Dismantling the gazebo and display material.
