A quarter peal was rung at Kington Magna on 12 October in memory of local ringer, Private Robert Yeatman.
Died 11/10/1917 age 37. Army Service Corps, attd. 7th Wireless Sect. Royal Engineers. Service No.M2/130907. Commemorated at Durban (Stellawood) Cemetery, South Africa, Grave F 132. Born 26/03/1880. One of seven children. Son of Thomas Yeatman and Sarah Ann Yeatman of Kington Magna, Gillingham, Dorset. Husband of Alice Yeatman (née Burcombe) of 32 Denmark Street, Windsor, Berks, whom he married on 29/04/1903 in Ringwood, Hants. Father of Irene Elizabeth Alice Yeatman (1903-1994). He is described as an “expert driver” and on enlistment was assigned initially to motor transport in East Africa. Born: Marnhull, Dorset. Enlisted: Chepstow. Resided (at time of enlistment): Yew Tree Cottage, Llandogo near Chepstow.
Tim Cox from the tower rang the tenor and other local ringers joined the band for refreshments afterwards.
