Angus Menzies RIP

It was with great sadness that the Chilmark ringers learned that Angus passed away in March this year after a long illness. He was a loyal member of the band at St Margaret’s and of the Mere Branch for over 10 years.

Angus learned to ring at St Margaret’s in 2013. He regularly attended weekly practices and rang for Sunday services and Remembrance Days; as well as on special occasions, including the Platinum Jubilee of her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth in 2022 and the Coronation of King Charles III; and to herald in the New Year. On some Christmas Days Angus was the sole intrepid ringer. His favourite bells were the 2 and the 3. Angus also sometimes rang at St John’s Tisbury until his health began to decline.

In addition to bell-ringing, Angus was Tower Correspondent from October 2013 until March 2024 when the ringers disbanded due to lack of numbers. In this role he was always both efficient and very supportive.

A memorial service was held for Angus at St John’s, Tisbury on 12th March when the bells were rung in his memory. Angus will be sadly missed and our thoughts are with Lynn and his family.
