Pewsey Vale Bellringers play their part in commemorating the 80 th Anniversary of D-Day
On Thursday 6 th June 2024, the Pewsey Vale Bellringers rang at all four of our towers as part of the ‘Ring Out For Peace’ commemorations for the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
Throughout the afternoon members of the band toured the villages in the Vale to ring at Upavon, Pewsey and Wootton Rivers, and we’ve been told that this was much appreciated by the villagers.
During the evening, the band was invited to ring as part of the Milton Lilbourne Village D-Day Commemorations Event, which also involved displays of wartime memorabilia; community singing; performances by the Phoenix Brass Band; a bar and a BBQ. At dusk, the village beacon was lit by Milton Lilbourne’s oldest parishioner, Pippin Lanyon, to the poignant sound of The Last Post/Sunset bugle call.
We were proud to ring at these events to honour those who gave so much for our freedom.
