Ring Out for Peace

Join the World in Ringing Out for Peace event

6.30pm, 6th June 2024 (80th Anniversary of D. Day)

The President of the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers recently issued this request:

On behalf of the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers, I am honoured and proud to be part of this campaign.

Bellringing marks our major life events, and each year I join many of my fellow bellringers in tolling for remembrance. It is fitting that we also ring out for peace. I encourage bellringers all over the world to join me on 6th June, by ringing their bells at 6.30pm local time, when we can make a joyful noise together.

President of the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers

The SDGR see this as a golden opportunity for a recruitment initiative, similar to that which took place last year in the Ring for the King campaign.

In addition, currently many Branches have learners who started later in 2023 and this national occasion would provide a goal to aim for, by taking part in Ringing Out for Peace.

Importantly learners will be able to say “I took part in Ringing Out for Peace on the 80th anniversary of D. Day” – (even if they needed assistance and only rung backstroke)

The Guild would like to encourage as many towers as possible to take part in this national event and in so doing raise awareness, via parish newsletters etc., of ringing in their local area and to use the event as a recruitment and retention initiative.
