Ringing World National Youth Contest (RWNYC) 2026

The SDGR is intending to take part in the RWNYC again this year and we would love as many young ringers as possible to be involved in the day.

  • The event will take place in Nottingham on Saturday 4th July 2026
  • To see what it’s all about, you can read about last year’s event here
  • The event will run from 10am until 6pm, so it will probably be necessary to travel up on the  Friday afternoon/evening and to stay overnight – or make a very early start on the Saturday!
  • In the competition we can ring call changes or methods on 6 or 8 bells
  • We don’t yet know which towers will be used for the competitions, but the bells chosen are  always reasonably light and easy to ring
  • There will also be other towers in and around Nottingham for groups to ring at, plus a handbell  workshop, mini-rings and stalls
  • The base for the day (and venue for the presentations at the end) will be St Mary’s church which is a 10-minute walk from the train station
  • All the towers will be accessible by public transport (trams, buses, trains) or via shuttle buses  provided by the organisers
  • All participants (whether ringing in the competition or not) need to be under 19 on 31st August  2026
  • It would be great if we could enter two teams (probably a 6-bell “rounds to queens and back”  team and a more experienced call changes team or a team ringing plain hunt) • You don’t have to ring in the competition; any young ringers who would like to come along to  support the team(s) and enjoy the day’s activities are very welcome (there is no limit on  numbers and all participants usually receive a medal)
  • The entry fee for each young ringer will be covered by the SDGR
  • The SDGR will provide a “Go Bellistic!” polo shirt for those who don’t already have one • We will do some fundraising, but parents will need to be prepared to cover a lot of the  transport and accommodation costs
  • Young ringers under 18 should be accompanied to the event by a parent or another  responsible adult. However, we are happy to supervise the young ringers during the day if  family members want to go off and do something else
  • There will be some practices beforehand for those in the team(s) – these will normally be on  Saturday afternoons
