Church bellringing in the Salisbury Diocese

Steeplekeeping Course

Ringers from nine different West Dorset towers attended our Steeple Keeping Course at Beaminster.

After a brief chat in the Ringing Chamber we headed up into the Bells. Nick Baker went through each area in the Bell Chamber. He talked us through different parts of the bells, and frame, that should be checked. He suggested how often this should be done, and when professional help should be sought.

After about two hours, which flew by, we headed to see the Carillon, arriving just before noon where we could watch, and hear it play “Hanover”. A great way to end the morning.

“Saturday morning was so useful and Nick pitched his talk at a level that all could understand and benefit from.  Competing with the sound of the birds he managed to explain the maintenance of the bells in a way that made it less daunting for new-comers to comprehend.” – Sally

“The Steeple Keeping course was very informative and enjoyable. I would recommend it to anyone who would like to improve their knowledge of how everything works when ringing.” – Bobby
