Church bellringing in the Salisbury Diocese

Young Ringers Update

Following a very well attended practice at Preston and Upwey at the end of January, the young ringers group met again on Saturday 24th February where fourteen young ringers enjoyed ringing at two 6-bell towers in the East Dorset branch – Stourpaine and Shroton.  Thank you to Sue Bosworth and Malcolm Trowbridge for welcoming us.

We welcomed Jacob for the first time as well as four students from Bryanston school. Ringing ranged from rounds and call changes to plain hunt, Grandsire and Stedman Doubles and Plain Bob and Double Oxford Bob Minor.

We were lucky enough to have our Guild Master, Vicki Rowse, join us for the afternoon. As well as wielding the teapot and helping with the washing up, she had time to chat to many of the young ringers, their parents and grandparents:

“It was a joy to see so many young ringers and their parents/supporters at the practice.  They all seem to be making really good progress and having fun doing it, which is how ringing should be.  It also bodes well for the Go Bellistic! team at the RWNYC in July.   Please do support their fundraising to enable everyone who wants to go to London for the event to do so.  It is always well organised and gives the young ringers such special experiences that many of us adult ringers can only dream about!”

– Vicky Rowse

Our next practice will be on Saturday 16th March in the Salisbury branch.
