Master’s Message

How wonderful to have bright sunny days more frequently now. Sunday was particularly welcoming when getting up for Mothering Sunday ringing in spite of losing an hour’s sleep with the clocks going back. I am also beginning to get requests from visiting ringers as outings are being planned, which shows that the good weather is encouraging people to make ringing plans.

We continue to be busy at Guild Executive. The second version of the rules has been circulated so everyone can have a look before the AGM. Please do have a look and if you have any thoughts or comments let me have them at email hidden; JavaScript is required It will be you that vote for or against them at the AGM and we are really keen to get them right so that we don’t have to revise them for another 10 years.

There are a few vacancies coming up for election if anyone is interested in joining us on the Executive. We are moving through modernisation fairly fast, but there is a lot still to do. Posts that are up for grabs are: Treasurer, Safeguarding Officer and one Central Council Representative and I am pleased to say that we have volunteers for one Belfry inspector, Membership Secretary, Health and Safety Officer, and one Central Council Representative post (subject to their election at the AGM). I’m a firm believer in sharing the load and collaborative working, so the more people we have involved the more we can achieve, and more members have a say in how the Guild is shaped for them and you. Come and join us!

As Pat mentioned last month Firsts Week starts on 5th April and continues until 13th. Two weekends are included to give maximum opportunities for people to try something for the first time and have fun doing it. Let us know what you did!

And 8th May marks the 80th Anniversary of VE day for which the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers has requested as many bells ring as possible at 6.30pm. I do hope that you will have an opportunity to ring at some point that day, it’s becoming increasingly important to remember these occasions as few who served in the war are still with us.

The Recruitment and Development workgroup has had some really useful discussions and you will start to see articles and resources appearing on the website over the coming weeks. Let us know if you have any ideas too.

And finally Easter will have been and gone by the time of the next newsletter, so I wish you all a peaceful and Happy Easter wherever you are and whatever you are doing.

Vicki
