Recruitment Success

On Saturday 5th April 2025 two Pewsey Vale Bellringers, Sarah Carreck and Lynne Batsford, had a table at the Pewsey Community Event in the Bouverie Hall to promote the heritage art of bell-ringing across the Vale. The Event was organised by Pewsey Parish Council as a showcase for local community groups, clubs and organisations to reach out to people who may not know what is on offer locally, and to encourage them to get involved.

Although not a very widely publicised event, there was a steady footfall and good interest in the bell-ringing table(the bell-shaped biscuits that Sarah had baked may have played a part there!) and so far, 8 people have signed-up for a ‘taster’ session for prospective new bell-ringers being held in Pewsey bell-tower on Saturday 26th April at 10:30am.

Editor’s note: This is a great example of the kind of display that is full of interest and is designed to attract engagement.  Bellrope, clapper, demonstration bell, books and clothing all combine to grab the eye and provoke a sense that there is something worthwhile to learn here.  The pull-up banners were borrowed from the Guild and the Pewsey Vale Ringers have had their own banner made.  The ringers on the stand are well turned out in their liveried clothing and, most importantly, they came wearing their smiles!  After all, who would want to join a club where everyone is miserable!

Note also that they had a specific event pre-scheduled to book anyone interested on so they could get a real taster.
