Bridport Fundraising update

The bells at St Mary’s Bridport were recast in 1924 and their Centenary Appeal, to again fund vital work, was launched in May this year. Earlier this year, a peal of Bridport Delight Major was rung 100 years after the dedication of the bells in 1924 to mark the start of this appeal.

The same band of ringers are now returning to Bridport, at 10am on Saturday 12th October 2024, to ring again. They will attempt a peal of Parkers 12 part Grandsire triples, the method rung for the first peal on the newly re-cast bells in 1924.

In addition to this, the next events organised by the Bridport ringers as part of the 100 year Celebrations are:
1) The Church Tower will be open on Saturday, 21st September
2) On Thursday, 3rd October, the Church will host a talk by Richard Balson on the history of the local Butcher, Balson’s, from the 1500s, followed by a talk by bellringer Alastair Forbes on the history of the Church and bells also since the 1500s.
3) On Saturday 19th October, the Church Tower will once again be open to visitors from 10am, then at 2pm the Church will host a free concert featuring the Wessex Women Singers and shanty singers from Bridport.
4) On Saturday 14 thDecember, the Ringers will run a Quiz night.
