General Information
The SDGR will offer financial assistance towards the cost of training for fully paid-up Members on a case-by-case basis from a maximum total amount agreed at the AGM.
Applications for grants shall be made to Branch Committees using the application form below. Branch Committees will consider each application, taking account of its benefits to the individual, tower or branch, and consider if the branch can contribute towards funding the request.
Branches should continue to charge for training within the branch and note that branch funds are there to help towards training costs. The grants will be available in addition to what branches pay for training from their funds.
If the Branch Committee agree that an application to the SDGR is appropriate they shall submit the application form to the Guild Training Officer and the Grant Administration Group will review and if approved arrange payment via the Guild Treasurer.
The Grant Administration Group consists of four SDGR Officers, the President, the Master, the Treasurer and the Training Officer and its role is defined in the Guild Training Policy.
Any SDGR Training Grant monies left over at the end of the Guild Year (AGM to AGM) shall be returned to the SDGR General Account and not be rolled over to the next year.
For the purposes of guidance, these grants could be given for:
- Support to a branch to run a course – particularly for instance a course open to several branches and bringing in outside tutors.
- Support for an individual to attend a locally run course.
- Residential Training Courses. Limits apply (see below). Members should distinguish between wanting a grant and needing one and are asked to use discretion in deciding whether to apply.
- ART courses – either run in our Guild or elsewhere. The Participants fee will be refunded by the SDGR as specified in the Training Policy. (See separate application form for ART courses organised by the SDGR)
- Mileage costs for Tutors and /or helpers to facilitate cross-branch training.
- Purchase of teaching aids and resources.
- Any other training activity or initiative that the Grant Admin Group considers worthy of support.
