Two ringers from the East Dorset Branch of the Salisbury Guild were nominated for this year’s ART awards.
Cathy Neyland from Lytchett Matravers was nominated for the ‘Learning the Ropes Contribution Award’ by Debbie Phipps.
This award is for contribution to the wider ringing community, for example, within a band, local area, Guild, Association or even the Central Council. The judges were particularly keen to see evidence of organisation, leadership, technical skills or examples of wider initiative and/or innovation.
Cathy achieved Module 2F in 2019 to become one of the ART trainers at St Mary’s. She supports the Tower Captain with the weekly practices and any other additional sessions which are run. Cathy was also instrumental in installing the Simulator and runs monthly simulator training sessions for the band. She took on the role of Honorary Branch Secretary in 2020 and is a regular attendee at Branch, Guild and ART events. Alongside this Cathy continues to improve her own ringing by visiting other towers.
We were delighted that Cathy came Runner Up in this award. Congratulations to Cathy. Read more …
Debbie Phipps from Lytchett Matravers was nominated for the ‘ART Award for Inspiring Leadership in Ringing’ by Alan Bentley.
This award is for individuals who create and deliver a long term vision for their bell ringing community, alongside imaginative and inspiring leadership. The judges wanted to understand the barriers and challenges that have been overcome and what was instrumental in making the leader successful – including insights into the specific leadership skills that made the difference and reflections on what others can learn.
This award was looking for nominations of individual leaders, even though they might well be working as part of a team.
Debbie has been Tower Captain for 7 years building the band up from 5 ringers to 20 during this time. St Mary’s has never had a regular experienced ringer to support the band but Debbie has asked other ringers to come along when possible and has benefitted hugely from her mentor Alan Bentley. The challenge she faced was running sessions for such a large band with such varied ringing abilities and now the band are moving on to method ringing she has introduced 4 extra ringing sessions each month for the more advanced ringers. Alongside this Debbie continues to improve her own ringing by visiting other towers. She has also taken on the joint role of Branch Training Officer and organises regular monthly training sessions for the Branch and is also updating the Branch website which has recently become a subdomain of the Guild website.
We were delighted that Debbie won in this award. Congratulations to Debbie. Read more …
