Interesting Miscellany

Hanging on the wall of the Bradpole ringing chamber in West Dorset is this fascinating notice from bellfounders Llewellins and James of Bristol who appear to have flourished between 1870 and 1940.  Presumably it was supplied when the bells were rehung in 1911.

It makes fascinating reading, illuminating procedures common in an era of oak frames and elm headstocks.

Personally, I’m pleased we no longer have to mix Russian tallow with our castor oil in the summer months.
