Despite heavy rain and gales more than 100 people turned up to support the “Big Breakfast” held in Powerstock Hut at the end of February, which made over £800 profit. This was the last planned fund-raising event to re-hang and restore Powerstock’s bells, the heaviest 6 in Dorset. The Powerstock Peal Appeal has now surpassed it’s £53k target from a combination of fund-raising, grants and donations including a grant of £10,600 from the Guild Bell Fund (LEBRF).
Only a week after the “Big Breakfast”, and still recovering from cooking, serving and clearing up for so many, some of the ringers watched as their bells left St. Mary’s church and were loaded onto a lorry to take them on their journey to Taylors in Loughborough.
Clare Oastler, Tower Captain, said: “To hit our target in little over a year has exceeded our expectations. I would like to thank everyone in the PCC steering committee, and the ringers of Powerstock and Loders, for all their efforts and hard work, as well as everyone in our community for their tremendous support.
We are looking forward to having our bells back ringing again in the near future.
