Ringing in Memory of Gordon Heath

Gordon Heath was for many years Tower Captain and Churchwarden at St George Fovant, and both he and his wife Pat were great supporters of SAGOR and Salisbury branch activities. In 2015 Gordon and Pat moved to a retirement village near Romsey, as Gordon was having some health issues. We heard that he had died on 13th May and the local Nadder Valley ringers wanted to ring a quarter in his memory. This was an ambitious goal as only one of our group is able to conduct and we are all a bit wobbly at times! We had a couple of goes which were unsuccessful. Gordon didn’t have a funeral but his ashes were interred at St George Fovant on 19th June, and the local ringers happened to be there and see Pat that day. We let her know that we were having another attempt on 7th July, and she said she would like to come and listen. No pressure!!

Supported by Pat Davidson, who also knew Gordon and Pat well, we were proud to have achieved a quarter peal of Plain Bob Doubles conducted jointly by two of our ringers, Alice Nield and Tilly Cooper, while Pat and her daughter listened in the churchyard.
