Our April practice was held at Shroton and Stourpaine, two towers just north of Blandford. Nine young ringers under the age of 18 attended and we rang rounds, call changes, plain hunt on five and a variety of doubles methods, as well as Plain Bob Minor. We also had a go at ringing the 1953 Coronation Call Changes, to mark the forthcoming coronation of King Charles III.
After enjoying ringing at Shroton and some refreshments (the doughnuts went down particularly well, although it’s not always wise to give Ben lots of sugar), we moved on to Stourpaine. There, we were surprised to see “King Charles” and “Queen Camilla”; Bertie the mascot took the opportunity to have his photo taken with them and ended up being featured on the front cover of The Ringing World. We were also able to talk to one of the local ringers who had rung for a visit by the real King and Queen for a funeral back in March.
Our next practice will be on Saturday 3rd June in the Dorchester area (details will be on the website soon). If you are 25 or under and a ringer in the Salisbury Guild or nearby, you will be very welcome!
