Steeple Keeping Course 11 July 2026

Despite it being a very warm day, our Guild Steeple Keeping Course was successfully held on Saturday 11 July 2026 tutored by David Godwin (Guild Belfry Advisor) and Chris Bush (DAC Bells Advisor). The morning session was held at Edington Priory Church (metal installation) with the afternoon at Potterne (wooden installation). This course is designed to provide Steeple Keepers with sufficient knowledge to maintain the bells in their care on a day-to-day basis. It covers visual inspection against a check list; basic maintenance eg bolt tightening, clapper aligning, what to grease and what not to grease; changing ropes and stays, etc. It also includes information about tools, muffle fitting, health and safety and faculty requirements. Attendees receive a certificate of attendance which can be provided to their PCC advising they are the competent, authorised volunteer to maintain their bells.

If you are interested in attending a future SK course, please contact Julia Russell, Guild Training Officer, via email hidden; JavaScript is required
