Tea in the Garden for the Lydlinch Bell Restoration Project

Members of the Mere Branch were pleased to attend the recent “Tea in the Garden” event at Lydlinch, to promote the art of bellringing and to support the fundraising project to re-tune and rehang the bells. Proceeds from this event, totalling around £3,100, have gone towards the Lydlinch Bell Restoration Fund.

A very hot sunny day with tea and cakes aplenty at the annual Lydlinch church fundraising event enticed a lot of visitors, a golden opportunity to chat to them about the art of bellringing, the Lydlinch bells project, and entice a few to give some thought to having a go at learning to ring.

The Lydlinch bells project is well on its way, the two access hatches to lower the bells through have been constructed. A drop-down hatch over the staircase in the ringing room will soon be installed. The peal will be augmented to six, a new treble has been received from the Keltek Trust. The bells will be coming out in the new year.

We wish Lydlinch every success with their bell restoration project and are very pleased to report that a new band has been taught to ring and are eagerly awaiting to ring at Lydlinch once the project has been completed.
