On a beautiful, sunny Saturday morning towards the end of November, eight young ringers gathered at Wimborne Minster. For the first part of the practice, we rang on the light eight using the simulator, practising rounds, call changes, dodging, plain hunt, Plain Bob Triples and Grandsire Triples. After a short refreshment break, we rang “open” on all twelve bells, with the help of a few of the local ringers – mostly rounds but with some plain hunt on eleven for some. For a couple of the young ringers, this was their first experience of ringing on twelve. It was a good end to a busy year.
A number of young ringers have reached personal milestones during 2023:
Pippa (Poole) has rung her first ever quarter peals – one on the tenor and another on the treble.
Annabel (Preston) has celebrated her 21st birthday with a quarter peal of Grandsire Triples inside. She has also rung quarters of Plain Bob Major and Grandsire Doubles for the first time, as well as ringing the treble to Surprise Major.
Ben, Esther and Ewan (Wimborne) have all rung their first quarter peals, with Ben also ringing the treble to Triples.
Conni (Upwey) has rung her first quarter of treble bob on the treble.
Ben (Heddington) has rung his first quarter inside (thus completing his LtR Level 4), as well as his first of Minor.
Joss and Buzz (Swanage) have both rung their first quarter peals and Joss has also rung his first inside.
Our trusty helper, Max Knight, has been developing his conducting career, calling quarters of Plain Bob Minor and Grandsire Triples for the first time.
Congratulations to everyone – and apologies to all those I have missed. Please do let me know about your local young ringers’ achievements.
