From New Ringer to Bob Doubles in 10 minutes

At St Mary’s Church, Lytchett Matravers our Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) took on a different format this year. After a shortened business meeting individual groups gave mini talks or performances.

Tower Captain Kris Knudsen gave a potted account of taking a ringer from complete beginner to ringing a method. Mike Kimber who has been ringing for many years expertly took on the role of learner while Cathy Neyland was the ART Trainer. Kris explained how the trainer would ring the handstroke while the learner rang the backstroke only then moving on to the learner ringing the handstroke only and finally putting both strokes together. Several members of the meeting got up out of their chairs to have a closer look at how we manage that.

Mike picked this up in no time at all so Kris then explained that as now Mike could ring a bell unaided he could ring in rounds with other ringers including Ann Manning and Alec Cannings. After a few rounds they were ready to move on so Kris then explained the intricacies of Call Changes which Mike again managed perfectly. Moving swiftly on, Kriss described how a ringer would then start to ring Plain Hunt followed by Methods such as Bob Doubles which involved Blue Lines and Circles of Work.

Kriss thanked the church congregation for their continued support for our band.
