Members of the Mere Branch were saddened to learn that Joan Edney of Chilmark had recently passed away. She had been a loyal ringer and supporter of the band at St Margaret of Antioch’s, Chilmark for over 34 years, since its inception in 1976/7, regularly attending practices and ringing for Sunday services each week and for weddings. In addition she also took part in several quarter peals.
As well as ringing, Joan was Chilmark’s Tower Correspondent for the band until she had to give up her ringing in 2011 after her health had started to decline. In recognition of her many years of service, she was made an Honorary Life Member of the Guild in the same year.
A thanksgiving service is due to be held at Chilmark on Friday 4th July at 3.30pm.
