Training and Development

Update from Sue Carter

As part of the Guild initiative on 29th of June the branch ran 5 training courses at different towers with 21 students taking part. Two of the courses covered Call Changes and 3 were for Plain Hunt.

These proved popular and we decided that the branch should repeat the training to consolidate and further develop what the students had learned.

So, during October four courses aimed to match students with the tutors, helpers and towers that they had in June. David Barrance, Tim Phillips, Chris Kingdon, Sue Carter and Janet Robinson were the teachers. This time there were 16 students. It was obvious that most had been able to practise what they were previously taught and had made progress, not just with the skill being practised but also with bell control and the language involved.

The crux of this level of training is to have a stable band for them to practise with. As usual our branch’s ringers stepped up to the task and provided that stability as well as helpful hints and encouragement. Often on these days the conversation at the coffee break is greatly valued and joined in by the students (the pros and cons of ringing by place notation was one of the subjects overheard being discussed!).

Thanks to all the teachers and helpers who gave up their time to support our newer recruits.
