Our Striking Competition this year clashed with several weddings and events which unfortunately limited the number of entries. However, despite the small number of teams we all had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. A big thank you to Hawkchurch ringers for hosting, Jack Pease for judging, and Nick Baker for again providing an excellent BBQ.

Hawkchurch were delighted to host the West Dorset Meeting & Striking Competition this year, on the 21st June. As a small, fairly inexperienced group of ringers, we practise weekly but what we ring much depends on numbers and learners! It’s fair to say that we probably would not have entered a team had the event not been held in our tower. However, Julie, our Tower Captain encouraged our participation and so several weeks before the event we set to practising. We were encouraged to try new things, including some ‘fun’ actions, changing the bells we normally rang on, and listening to recordings of our ringing. Practising for the competition much improved our striking techniques, and confidence.
We even won the Novice Plaque! But then we were at an advantage – it’s not everyone who likes our short-draught bells.
