Our October practice was held at Martinstown (6) and Bradford Peverell (8) in the Dorchester branch. Three young ringers joined us for the first time: Beatrice and Bridget from Wareham (East Dorset branch) and Daniel (Devizes branch). We were a small group on this occasion, so everyone got lots of ringing and there wasn’t much time for resting – but of course we did make time for refreshments. Many thanks to Janet Collins for making cups of tea and baking some delicious apple muffins. We rang lots of rounds, call changes and plain hunt, plus some Grandsire Doubles. We also rang rounds whilst facing outwards from the circle and managed perfect rounds on 6 and nearly-perfect rounds on 8. Everyone, including the helpers, really enjoyed this, so we will try it again at future practices; it certainly makes you focus on striking your bell accurately.
Our next practice is on Saturday 23rd November at Evershot and Maiden Newton. See the guild calendar or the “young ringers” section on the guild website for more information. All young ringers are very welcome.
